Contridicting Disneyland Advertisement

Ah Disneyland, the most magical place on earth. In 1965, you could have won a free trip to Disneyland with your mom and dad. All you had to do is buy white paste through your favorite star: Yogi Bear. Wait! What? You all are probably thinking that that is not accurate but it is. Yogi Bear can get you a trip to see Mickey Mouse. This is bizarre. Why would Yogi Bear get you to see Mickey Mouse. The advertisement should include a different product not featuring a rival studio to Disney. I wonder if Bill and Joe knew? I wonder what they thought of Disneyland. Disneyland is not the place to see Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, or Top Cat. Disneyland is where you see Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Jiminy Cricket.

  1. Well, this was before Hanna-Barbera entered the theme park business with their acquisition of Marineland in the 1970s. So, I can most definitely see this ad as having been legit and authorized by Hanna-Barbera. Of course, it is odd to see, as today Time Warner and Disney are both enormous media conglomerates with a ferocious rivalry between them. Time Warner-owned characters would never be used to promote Disneyland today. More likely, they would be used to promote a Six Flags theme park.

Hanna-Barbera promoting Disneyland... One of many things that mark this ad as being very clearly the product of another time...

    Fascinating post.

    1. Hanna-Barbera also had its theme park in the 70s: The King's Dominion, which was located in Doswell, Virginia, USA. And this park was very visited on that period.

I wonder how many flower children got high sniffing Yogi Bear white paste (one or two hits and you thought you were in Disneyland).
